Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown Gets Free Q Trials Mode & DLC Press ReleaseNews 2 Oct Written By Legacy Jill Apparently, one impossible journey through the Delta Quadrant was not enough. Publisher Daedalic Entertainment and developer gameXcite today released Q Trials, an all-new roguelite mode available as a free update for all owners of Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown. The update launches alongside Equinox, the game’s second DLC and part of the Expansion Pass. Overseen by the omnipotent being Q, Q Trials lets players experience the game like never before. Built around freedom and replayability, the new mode challenges players to embark on a series of increasingly difficult runs through the Delta Quadrant, shaped by procedural events and random sector goals, creating a unique experience with every run. Extensive customization options allow players to experiment with crew assignments and unconventional strategies, including promoting Harry Kim to Captain. Every run presents new decisions and new opportunities to adapt. At the end of each sector, Q offers players the choice of three rewards: resources, new heroes or new technologies, which contribute to permanent meta progression. Players also have to use a variety of “Q modifiers” that significantly alter the established gameplay. Double the capacity of crew quarters in exchange for increased sickness? Gain additional morale at the expense of reduced building speed? Or simply increase the chance of extremely positive but also negative outcomes? Players must respond to these unexpected situations, reconsider familiar strategies, and find their own way through Q’s latest test. All owners of the base game can enter the Q Trials aboard the U.S.S. Voyager at no additional cost. Captains looking for a considerably more challenging journey can expand the mode with the Equinox DLC, available as part of the Expansion Pass or stand-alone. The DLC unlocks the U.S.S. Equinox as an alternative playable ship exclusively for Q Trials. Significantly smaller than the U.S.S. Voyager, the U.S.S. Equinox offers less building space, a lower crew capacity and reduced warp power. Players will therefore need to make tougher decisions and work with more limited resources as they attempt to guide the ill-equipped science vessel through the Delta Quadrant. The Equinox DLC also adds three recruitable heroes for Q Trials: - Captain Rudolph Ransom, captain of the U.S.S. Equinox and an accomplished xenobiologist - First Officer Maxwell Burke, a pragmatic Starfleet officer with a sharp technical mind - Crewman Noah Lessing, a dedicated crewman whose loyalty and resolve are tested by the ship’s desperate situation - All three characters are exclusive to Q Trials and are not available in the main campaign. In the Equinox-exclusive questline “Spirits of Good Fortune”, players experience the tragic story of the vessel firsthand. Stranded aboard a ship never designed for such a journey and pushed to the brink of despair by the Krowtonan Guard, the crew encounters the Ankari and the mysterious beings they revere as spirits of good fortune. What initially appears to be a glimmer of hope soon presents a dangerous temptation. Players can cross a moral point of no return and unlock a unique, much faster path home - provided they are willing to abandon Starfleet principles and live with the consequences. Q, naturally, will be watching. The free Q Trials update and the Equinox DLC are available now for Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The base game is required to play. Owners of the Expansion Pass already have access to the Equinox DLC at no additional cost.
