About The Game
Get ready to enjoy off-road races with your friends and family!
Rock'N Racing Off Road offers entertaining and exciting races, with loads of skids, crashes and amazing jumps. You will have several modes of play, such as Cup mode, time trial and multiplayer, with the option of up to five players at a time.
Online ranking table let you compare your best times with friends and players from around the world.
The racing genre has many variations to keep fans entertained from kart's, track, realistic, micro machine types and off roads dirt track sliding to name just a few.
Rock 'N Racing as you'll likely have guessed is part of the off road dirt track sliding variety, and sliding around it certainly offers.
The game features 12 tracks, 4 cups, 4 car types, a time trial mode and up to 5 player multi player.
You'll start with just the american cup open to you that includes 4 tracks and one car.
You must win the cup to unlock the next set of tracks and the next car and this continues until everything has been unlocked.
Scoring is relatively simple 1st gets 5 points 2nd scores 4 and all the way down to 5th scoring 1 point.
However after 1st place has crossed the line all others only have a set amount of time before they are deemed timed out anyone timed out will score 0 points regardless of their position when they timed out.
There is some issues with variety of tracks as despite being 12 in total it's really just 4 tracks each modelled slightly differently 3 times.
The 4 tracks of the American cup look basically the same as the 4 tracks from the other cups just set out differently.
I never expected the game to have the smoothest controls in the world and neither should it.
It's suppose to be slipping and sliding around a dirt track not travelling along a nice new tarmac road on a Sunday drive.
However some will be put off by the nature of the control difficulty at times.
Driving on the straights and even around the corners (holding ZL to drift around at faster speeds) is a relatively simple process.
Hitting some of the hills on the other hand seems to be a jump and hope effect especially if any other car is remotely close to you.
The slightest touch can send you crashing into the barrier and more often than not if that happens your race is an almost certain write off! (You're very unlikely to make 1st place unless it happens veryearly on)
The cpu also suffer from the bump and crash issues but they usually have 2 outcomes for hitting a barrier.
Option one they re spawn on the track (you don't do that ever you need to reverse at snail pace)
option two they just stay stuck until knocked free or they randomly decide they can actually race again half a lap or more later.
On a few rare occasions they even went for a mythical option 3 they vanish presumably to re spawn and never came back!
Just vanished from the race and classified as out (which at least means less points for the rival.
This issue can't ever happen to you because you can never re-spawn.
The Usa track in particular for me at least has a lot of issues about sticking in walls.
Time trial mode includes online rankings but you can't race on just one track you must complete all races in the entire cup to obtain a ranking.
And don't forget you can only compete in the cups you've already beaten and unlocked.
Multi player mode has been an issue with some previous enjoy up releases because if you were a single player you were often locked out of all multi player modes due to the lack of online play.
This time around that has thankfully been fixed and you can play in multi player even if you are playing alone the cpu will take control of the other cars.
In this mode you can play on a single track rather than having to do all the cups and you can select the type of car you want to use (from the ones you've unlocked)
Only tracks you've unlocked can be raced on so to take on the UK track you'll need to win America cup.
A good challenge will reward players willing to put in the effort.
Online leader boards will truly reward the skilled players over the course of a whole cup.
Single players can still play in multi player mode against cpu opponents.
It took a few attempts and a little luck but the American cup was finally mine.
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
No online play.
Crashing into a barrier takes an age to get out of (compared to the cpu's mere re spawning seconds)
Going over big jumps with rivals near by can mean more luck that judgement and skill on landing.
Despite featuring 12 tracks it's basically redesigns of a core 4.
The number of times I saw his screen because I'd get glued (or rammed into) a wall on the last lap of the final race was truly infuriating.
Overall I'd say the games difficulty ranks a little higher than I expected but that's not always a bad thing.
Given the low price it might suit those for a different type of racing experience on the Wii U eShop and a challenge to go with it.
The fact time trial offers a time over the entire cup means there will be a wild variety in high scores and you'll need to perfect all the tracks in the cup in order to nail that truly great time.
Those that are looking for smoother controls and an easier racing experience would be better advised to look elsewhere.
