About The Game
Super Toy Cars is a tabletop arcade combat racing game featuring fast, cool-looking cars, impressive tracks made of everyday objects, and a bunch of power-ups that will let you destroy your opposition. Collect all the cars and upgrades to keep up with the competition as you progress in career mode, or have a quick race against AI opponents or friends. You can even play with up to four players locally.
There are 16 different cars in the game, each with its unique handling model. Experiment with them and find the ones that best suit your driving style, as well as the different situations you'll find in all 12 tracks. You may even want to use different cars depending on the type of event you're playing, because there are 48 events in career mode, but not all of them are races!
Super Toy Cars is big, with lots of options for you to tweak and play with, but most importantly it's been carefully crafted to be fun to play and fun to race in, whether alone or with friends.
Take to the track and aim to finish first in forty eight events set across four difficulties levels and your choice of sixteen cars (most require unlocking)
If you've ever played the classic micro machines games of years gone by try to imagine a more modern 3d look with eight cars thrown in a race for good measure.
Just like the old micro machines races are hectic and hitting a wall or seven is almost inevitable.
I'm a press A to start kind of guy myself
There 5 different event types of game races
1. Standard race (no explanation required)
2. Time trial (fastest lap wins)
3. Check point (hit all the checkpoints before the time runs out)
4. Elimination (The last placed car is eliminated every 15 seconds until only 1st place is left)
5. Evade (Like elimination but with mines thrown placed all over the track in random places thankfully the cpu players are just as likely to hit them as you)
Each level has six events so it would have been nice to have six different types but overall it's reasonably acceptable.
The evade event in can be excessively brutal in the later levels if you don’t get off to a good start but most of the others can usually be beat fairly comfortably if you are using the right car.
All levels have 6 events
Which car that is will vary from player to player, most will find they each have their own particular favourites.
For example I can’t use the F1 car at all (I bought and fully upgraded the car but I could barely get it around a single corner.
The twenty five Achievements will give those of you who must achieve 100% a little extra game time which is always welcome given Nintendo's absence of an achievement / trophy system
The evade all mines in evade achievement proved to be particularly difficult I got to within 2 seconds of the end of the race and hit one!
(Still haven't come close since)
Lastly it has a track editor that should please the vast amount of racing fans who are always wanting to see such a thing.
It’s basic to a degree but this is an independently made e-shop game it’s not a big 1st or 3rd party publisher working with a multi million pound budget.
If it’s viewed in realistic terms the track editor is a fine addition to the game and can only help extend the game.
The Formula 2500 car is one I really can't drive!
Fun and chaotic racing.
Plenty of levels to beat.
25 achievements to earn some of which will give the game an extra challenge.
Track editor offers plenty of scope for local multi-player and single player fun.
Good number of cars to chose from and upgrade throughout the game.
Difficulty increases at a fair rate.
The tin can tunnel looks like a tight squeeze I'd personally take a side route.
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
No online play
Many of the tracks worlds lack true variety.
The track editor is fairly basic but you can have some reasonable fun with it
If you prefer your racing to be a smooth and crash free experience wherever possible this game isn't for you.
If your of an age where if you weren't racing Snes Mario kart you were probably throwing micro machines around (and off) the kitchen table and the rest of the house you’ll have a fair amount of fun with the game.
It was never going to take the best racing title on wii u away from mario kart 8 but in reality it’s almost impossible any game will.
Is it the best racing game on the Wii U e-shop?
It depends on the type of experience you're looking for.
It certainly has rivals but there is no reason a racing fan can't own a few racing games.
I beat the career mode without too many real issues (other than a couple of hiccups on task set 7)
I still need to get all the achievements.
If you only want 1 racing game on wii u it’s obvious what most will get but if you want something to compliment it you could do a lot worse than Super Toy Cars
