How should a book be started really? Once upon a time seems like it could work after all this is a full on tale and involves fairies, angels and even all singing, all dancing sheep. But this isn’t a fairy tale the happy ever after is certainly questionable and the protagonist of this story most certainly isn’t some heroic hero that just has to succeed in the end. After all he doesn’t even have a name right now!
Surely at the very least a name should have been thought up before this thing was started, well at the very least set the scene for this epic journey. How are we going to start things off? A log cabin in the middle of nowhere? In the middle of an epic fight with a huge fire breathing dragon? What about a few zombies you love the walking dead and zombies are so over right now that’s got to be the way to go right? (Editor Notes)
Our protagonist that currently has no name finds himself in the middle of a room so dark he can’t even see the 4 wall that encase him.
Wait a minute if the room is so dark you can’t see the walls but you already know there are 4 of them? (Ed)
Our protagonist decides the best course of action would be to search for a light switch. Some searching and a flick of switch later the room is still dark but things are at the very least visible enough for us to move things along. Four walls surround us.
Two of the walls in particular catch our protagonists attention on one is a huge steel door complete with sliding hatch and numerous locks and bolts. On the opposite side of the room is a broken wooden door gently swinging open and closed as if catching some form of undetectable breeze. The protagonist searches the four dark corners of the room with each seemingly more dark than the one that precedes it. Hidden in almost the total darkness of the final corner is a man huddled as tightly as possible, his head buried between his knees & hidden under his scar covered arms.
If you can see the scars the corner can’t be that dark (Ed)
He begins to mutter faintly as our protagonist takes a couple of steps towards him
I can’t believe your still calling him the protagonist you better have a name by chapter 1.5 (Ed)
“How did you get in here?”
“Don’t come any closer”
Naturally our protagonist takes a couple more steps.
“Why are you here?”
“What is it you seek?”
Our protagonist stops just a few steps from the still huddled up man.
Please tell me you at least thought up a couple of questions? (Ed)
“Who are you?”
“Where are we?”
How very predictable. Maybe he should have asked what his own name was. (Ed)
The huddled man raises his head to reveal a drawn & tortured look, bloodshot eyes & more than a couple of missing teeth.
“I am the keeper of the mind”
He slowly begins to get to his feet.
“And you are in the deep dark depths of my owner”
Wait that’s it? This is how you’re selling this entire 200 plus chapter epic? Barely a mention of those sheep? No mention of all the women or the sex or the deaths? Those things sell books, you know that right? None of the good or the bad or… well sure okay the keeper is pretty ugly. You’re really going to have to up your game in chapter 1. This isn’t a modern day Mario game where your readers are like lives & you’ll just keep getting more of them. Let’s be honest if you keep calling him the protagonist these pages are going to have more ghosts than a full Pac Man play through!
Let me have one quick paragraph to turn this mess around for you.
This story was written at the suggestion of one of the greatest men the author ever met and that’s saying a lot because the author has almost no male interactions in his life. Yes the mind segments are out there, but the core chapters are very real & often very raw. Brutally honest throughout, My Life My Mind isn’t an autobiography that tries to paint the author in a better light, make him sound nicer or better than he is or seek sympathy for life’s losses. The author is autistic, he’s extremely uncomfortable with most social interactions, he’s a gamer, he’s a dad and he is clearly a little bit crazy. It doesn’t matter if this is read by one person or one million people. The author has always done things his own way and will always do so. We hope you’ll enjoy the ride there is fun to be had within the darkness. My Life My Mind an autobiography the likes of which has never been seen before and will never be seen again.
Nope it’s not going to work is it? I told you to just start with a zombie fight you were already halfway there with that weird keeper! (Ed)
Chapter 1 Creation
There are two versions of this in my archives one that starts the moment I was born & the other starts roughly 9 months prior.
At the time this is published i'm somewhat torn on which to choose but given the early madness we've got into already with this foreword we'll probably stick purely with facts in the real chapter entries.
The original plan was to update this section every week but currently that's probably not going to happen.
While more than 200 entries have been written they all have to go through editing and the Legacy project is already a huge time consuming monster project and I suspect the majority of legacy visitors won't be all that interested in most of this.
The Foreword will be posted February 21st with chapter 1 and the mind part 1 both coming before the end of the month.
after that the current aim is to post 1 chapter and one mind part each month.
where time allows this may occasionally be increased to 2 a month but not on a regular basis.
This book is dedicated to every single person in it regardless if such times were good bad or indifferent,
Everything & everyone in my life has brought me to this point & while it's not always been a game of the year contender I haven't hit the game over screen quite yet either.
My Life My Mind
These entries aren't entirely gaming related.
This is more of a therapy session in many ways than anything else.
I can understand why some (perhaps even a lot) of people will think that this story has no place on this website and that's a fair view.
This section will only be posted on the homepage when a new chapter is published and has an entirely different area under the Legacy Blogs tab so it's not mixed in with the gaming related content.
Sometimes it will hopefully be light and funny, a lot of the times its pretty dark and sad.
But one thing it certainly will always be is very different to any autobiography to come before or after it.
Music & Spotify
I'm not a music guy, & have very little interest in music at all.
but every now and again I hear a song and for whatever it seems to sum up various events in my life and I've used said songs as well as a few joke ones to give this Autobiography it's very own album!
Not every entry has one in fact the vast majority don't while a couple of rare entries have more than one.
We use Spotify to embed the songs and an account is required to listen to them free and premium options are available as well as millions of songs and an ever growing podcast list
