What you Will Find On Legacy
What You Won't Find On Legacy
As frequent visitors to Legacy will quickly see a number of changes have taken place with the core design and style of the site.
I've said before and I'll say again this site is largely run by one person and I'm not a graphic designer nor am I a website designer.
A True Lecay Database Is Coming
When I started the Legacy Project my main goals were to help promote the video game industry and more importantly preserve its history and legacy.
I'll be the first to admit I've go side tracked at times, my oldest son (aged 6) has severe autism and sometimes a piece of work that would normally only take 10 minutes can take several hours to complete.
I've had a few health issues (none that will stop this site)
And even more than all that I got dragged further and further over into more modern day news & reviews.
I never set out with the intention of running a video game news website there are far too many already and while I love writing reviews of new games & of course playing them before most other people that too has brought too many often time consuming hours from Legacy's most important goal.
I basically took a Nuke to this site.
All the old reviews have been backed up on various hard drives as has our media, features and interviews from the past.
But they aren't live on Legacy right now and won't ever be again in quite the same format they were before.
The check lists and database will take top priority and while I've already changed their layouts and could publish them on the site right now I don't want to be that site that limps along with the occasional update here and there.
By April 6th I won't have every check list ready and live far from it.
Every game or Item won't have it's own database page but it will be up and running.
How detailed will these check lists be?
The Sega Master system list for example has a master list of over 400 games but not every game on that master list will be relevant to everyone so it doesn't stop there also included are a pal master list for those only collecting pal releases.
Region lists for every game released in Europe, North America, Asia (Japan, South Korea, Twain), South America, & Oceania
But what if you want more than just a list of game names what if you want to collect some of the other stuff?
Different covers, different cartridges, some major differences some so tiny 99.9% of people would never notice.
Always the jewels in game collectors crowns but if you don't know it exists how can you own it.
You see a game you've never heard of it before is it something new or just another name for that game you own 10 times already?
You may want every version you may not but at least you can check
Which games only came out in which regions or countries they often cost far more to own so it might be worth knowing what they are and where your more likely to find them.
Frowned upon by some and love by others.
should it really be considered part of a collection?
That's up to you but there are a number modern very big games companies that created some a number of unlicensed products back in the 80's and 90's in particular as well as some fantastic home brew physical releases for consoles old and new.
Yes not all of you will care about such an information overload and it's all split into easy searchable sections so you only have to look at the information your interested in.
And yes just in case your wondering It did take me a long time to upload all that data and I'm certainly hoping we'll be joined along the way by more video game fans to truly bring our legacy database to life.
But more on all of that and other features soon to arrive at a later date.
Until April I hope you all have some fun gaming ahead you regardless of your gaming platform of choice.
If all my research over the past few years has taught me anything its that my collection is about to get a whole lot bigger!
